The Wisdom of Healing

Frequently Asked Questions?

How does Acupuncture work?

This does not have an easy answer but as simple as possible;  When we are born we are given a certain amount of basic energy (prenatal Qi)- Everyday after, we bring energy into the body through the air we breath, the food we eat and the water we drink. This becomes our postnatal Qi and is the Qi that sustains the body. This energy or Qi has specific directions depending on where its going and has its own course in order to supply the entire body and all of its functions. The ancient TCM Doctors were able to see this movement of Qi and the specific pathways it takes and from this, the meridians were understood. It was also known that along these meridians there are specific points which harness the body’s energy and do very specific tasks in conjunction with the meridians, otherwise known as the “acupuncture points” . By inserting fine needles into these points we are then able to move and balance the energy associated with the meridians, effecting the entire body.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

The needles being hair thin and very flexible sometimes go in without any feeling at all. In some cases you may feel a heaviness or tingling sensation which usually disapates in a couple of minutes after the Qi gathers and then moves from one area of the body to another. I always makes sure your completely comfortable before you are left to rest with the needles in and any adjustments that are needed to be made are done at this time.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Acupuncture is extremely safe when performed by a licensed professional. With that said, in Argentina and most of Latin America this is very hard to come by since there are no formal schools. A licensed acupuncturist has had at least 3,000 hours of training. I have been fully licensed by NCCAOM (National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine), CCAOM ( Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine ) and by the State of New York with 4,000 hours of training. Needles are another important factor, I use only 100% sterilized, disposable and single use needles.

How many treatments will I need before I see a change?

Acupuncture works in a cumulative way from the inside out, the root to the branch. We typically suggest that a patient has at least 6 treatments before we reassess.  Though sometimes you may experience a quicker response when the issue is more acute rather than chronic. The beautiful thing about acupuncture is not only is it helping the main issue you may be coming in for, but you will start noticing a difference in the quality of your sleep, digestions, emotions and general health ; which is why getting regular acupuncture is also highly recommended.

What about Herbal Medicine ?

Herbal medicine is a very important part of Chinese Medicine and has been used for over 3,000 years. The formulas used are all Classical Chinese formulas which are very safe and work wonderfully in conjunction with acupuncture. Aside from being a Licensed Acupuncturist, I am also a licensed Chinese Herbalist, having a deep knowledge base of herbal formulas and dosage as well as in combination with Western medication. Chinese herbal medicine is a very safe and effective modality.
